What is Socialism?

Socialism is the opposite of capitalism, where the country’s economy is run by private businesses, where as Socialism requires the unity of the whole community in order for a country to function. Thus socialism encourages a collectivists society – one where we cooperate together rather than as individuals.

“The only way to save the world is through socialism, but a socialism that exists within a democracy; there's no dictatorship here.” Hugo Chavez -
Former President of Venezuela

The rise of Socialism was due to the capitalist threats coming from Europe but was also a product of Industrialisation where many industrial workers were looked down upon and were forced to live in poverty.
