What is Liberalism?

Liberalism is founded on the idea of equality and freedom amongst its people. The ideology emphasises the importance of the government in protecting individual liberties but the government can also act as an obstacle to this.  Liberals value individualism, rationalism, freedom, justice and toleration also with the key principle of meritocracy. The ideology is significantly growing in importance in the Western world due to it representing the breakdown of capitalist society.

"Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved" Aristotle - Greek philosopher and scientist
